Services
Our Primary
Services
- Consumer
Protection:.
This is an
extremely important part of our work since the
person just experiencing loss can be an easy
prey to misrepresentation and fraud. We assist
consumers by letting them know there are options
- more than one piece of software, electronic
magnifier, assistive device, medical treatment,
etc.
- Information
& Referral Helplines - Available
24-hours a day.
Through
this toll-free service, we provide one-on-one
counseling to the person experiencing vision
loss, their families, friends, and
agency/medical personnel seeking to provide
solutions to clients'/patients'
problems.
Feel
free to use our toll-free number, but using our
regular number, 317-254-1332, allows us
to dedicate resources that may be needed
elsewhere.
- This
Website provides a variety of
free information on many topics, late-breaking
news affecting its targeted population, links to
a large number of related medical and
non-medical entities, etc.
- Journal
- "Vision
Enhancement":
This publication is filled with items such as
the latest advances in technology,
medical/scientific developments,
book/video/magazine references, news from around
the world, and "how-tos" on subjects from
computer operation to day-to-day living. It
speaks to vision impaired of all ages, their
families, and the medical/educational community
which serve them. Each issue contains a valuable
resource directory with complete contact
information. The publication is being referred
to as a "vital support group" for the visually
impaired of all ages.
It is
available at no cost on our website.

Why
Our Services Are Needed
- The
first health-care and social-workers
that a newly blind person may come in
contact with are often not specifically
trained for vision loss.
- Vision-care
professionals need to keep up-to-date
on the latest technology, services, and
programs.
- Rehabilitation
counselors at government agencies are
often generalists and not specifically
trained in serving those with low
vision.
- Many
misconceptions, and even prejudices,
still exist concerning the capabilities
of those who are blind or visually
impaired.
- Desperation
is common to those who suffer vision
loss, which makes them easy prey to
unscrupulous persons.
Our
goal is to educate all the above people
and facilitate communication among them.
